Agave Rescue Program

Tank’s Green Stuff cares about supporting our bat population!

lesser-long-nose-bat_origBring agave plants that have not yet bloomed (large flower spike that shoots up from the middle) to the Tank’s Speedway Recycling & Landfill Facility (7301 E. Speedway), and ask to place the plants in the designated Agave Rescue area. Then, the plants will be picked up and replanted in our communities and landscape where they will be able to live the remainder of their lives and bloom (to support bats and other pollinators).

Bats are Important: they control pests such as mosquitos and pollinate numerous plant species. Perhaps one of our favorite plants that they pollinate are agaves–which are used to make tequila, mezcal, and bacanora…! Save agave, save bats, and we can continue to enjoy our favorites regional beverages.

This is made possible by¬†partnership with Tucson Cactus & Succulent Society and with help from Borderlands Restoration. (Bring in other green landscape debris for recycling while you’re at it- there is a $15 fee for pickup truck drop off. Larger vehicles like trailers are processed at $30/ton.)
